Glass Half Full

Glass Half Full was founded in New Orleans in 2020 by Tulane students Franziska Trautmann and Max Steitz, who could not accept that their city had no glass recycling and started crushing bottles in a backyard. The operation now collects glass across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast and turns it into sand and gravel for coastal restoration and disaster relief, sending bottles back to rebuild the shoreline. A National Science Foundation partnership studies the restoration side. It is one of the best founding stories in our recycling group.
