B Lab was founded in 2006 by three friends from Stanford who believed business could compete to be best for the world, not just best in the world. It created B Corp certification, which now covers thousands of companies in over 100 countries that meet audited standards for social and environmental performance, and it rewired corporate law by spreading benefit-corporation statutes. The B Impact Assessment behind the mark is free and used by hundreds of thousands of businesses. B Lab is the standards-setter in our collection, and B Corp status feeds directly into our own scorecards.
