1% for the Planet was founded in 2002 by Patagonia's Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies owner Craig Mathews, two business owners who decided the planet deserved a fixed cut of every sale, good year or bad. Member businesses commit 1 percent of revenue, not profit, to vetted environmental nonprofits, and the network has now moved over half a billion dollars. The logo on a label is a quick, audited signal that a brand pays its earth tax. It is the giving-infrastructure entry in our non-profits collection.
