Cotopaxi
About Cotopaxi
Cotopaxi was founded in Salt Lake City in 2014 by Davis Smith as a public benefit corporation, named for an Ecuadorian volcano near where he spent part of his childhood.
Its slogan is 'Gear for Good': the company says it exists to fight extreme poverty, moving at least one percent of revenue into grants for health, education, and livelihoods.
It makes backpacks, duffels, luggage, and colorful outdoor apparel, including the Del Dia line stitched from leftover remnant fabric so no two packs look alike.
Using repurposed and recycled materials across most of the line plus the structural giving model is the strength; the gap is supply-chain depth, where factory-level transparency and measured emissions are still maturing.
