Buy Nothing

buynothingproject.org

The Buy Nothing Project was started in 2013 by Rebecca Rockefeller and Liesl Clark on Bainbridge Island, Washington, as a single Facebook group testing whether a neighborhood could run a gift economy. It grew into millions of members across dozens of countries, plus a standalone app, all running the same rule: give freely, ask freely, no money, no barter, hyperlocal only. Every gifted ladder and lasagna pan is a purchase that never happened. It is the community-reuse entry in our apps collection.
