The RealReal was founded in 2011 by Julie Wainwright, who bet that luxury resale would work only if buyers never had to wonder whether the bag was real, and built authentication into the core of the business. It became the largest authenticated luxury consignment marketplace, went public on Nasdaq, and publishes annual reporting on the emissions and water its recirculated goods displace. Consigning keeps designer fashion, jewelry, and watches moving through second and third owners. It is the luxury end of our resale group.
