Not Too Late was assembled in 2023 by Rebecca Solnit, the essayist behind Hope in the Dark, and Fijian climate organizer Thelma Young Lutunatabua, who met through the climate movement and wanted an antidote to doom. They gathered organizers, scientists, poets, and storytellers, from Mary Annaise Heglar to Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, into one anthology published by Haymarket Books. The essays argue with evidence that the climate story is still being written and that despair is a luxury the movement cannot afford. It sits squarely in climate essays and movement writing, and it is the book we hand people who say it is already over.
